4 stars (A real tool for attaining health and fitness for life) - Body for Life for Women should be considered an essential guide for women's preventive heath. Because it is focused specifically on the unique health and fitness needs and problems encountered by women, it is much more valuable for women than general health or diet texts. While it promotes a plan of "12 weeks to a fabulous body"; to see it as a mere diet or fitness book sells short its real value. A diet book may help us (temporarily) lose a few pounds; this book aims to show us how to create a healthy body in which we can live independently throughout our lives. As a spokesperson on health, Dr. Peeke is the real thing. She is an expert on the most current understanding of nutrition, preventive health and women's issues. The book is well written, inspiring and accessible. It gives women, especially those of us over 40, real hope and guidance as we wonder why "what we have always done" to stay fit is not working any more. I found especially interesting the section on life milestones, which describes a woman's health priorities at each stage of life. The mind principles, which urge us to examine the attitudes that shape our behavior, are a wake-up call. Dr. Peeke is a big fan of the Nike slogan "Just Do It". In this book, she tells us exactly what it is that we must just do and provides the tools and motivation to keep doing it. 5 stars (You won't believe it!) - I have completed my 12 week program and am astounded by the results. I'm 53 and a dancer but I never thought my body would return to this level of fitness. Thank you, thank you, thank you. A lot of space is taken up by quoting paragraphs from the book and the questions are sometimes redundant. I also found that it takes a little too long to complete a chapter of the journal. 4 stars (Understanding and Healing a Woman's Soul.) - If your a man and just can't seem to figure out woman, then this book is not necessarily for you. I would encourage you to read John Eldredge's, the co-authors other book, "Wild at Heart". It touches on everything in this book, and will also help you understand yourself better as a man, which in turn will help you come to a better understanding of what makes woman tick. If you are a male that is into counseling woman then I would recommend this book to you. From my interaction with woman over the years, I can see this book bringing healing to many a woman's life, as long as they give the book a chance and are honest with themselves. I do see some anger in some of the other reviews, but I really think these reviewers are just missing the point. As a man I do find the type of woman that the author tries to lead all woman to become, to be the only ones that I truly find Captivating. And no matter what some people would say, as a woman you are entitled to be Captivating. 5 stars (Finding Contentment is not easy, but can be accomplished!) - Life throws many curves. When my husband lost his job and I was an at home mom at the time, I was filled with anxiety. This book was my lifeline. I gained strength and courage to deal with daily struggles. I learned to thank God for my situation rather than asking him to change it. Believe me, there were days when I wanted relief and I drew strength from God to keep going. Eventually my husband found another job and we moved closer to family. I love this book and still refer to it often. This book brought me closer to finding contentment during a time in my life when I didn't think that was possible. I looked to God to fill my heart rather than looking to people or situations. 5 stars (Best Book EVER!!!) - Besides my Bible, this is the ONLY book that will reside on my night-stand for the rest of my life. 2 stars (ugh) - like the other books in the series, it is rife with stereotypes. readers of these books would never guess from reading them that christian men and women have any sexual problems aside from piggish man who thinks only of satisfying his animal desires and wants a physicallyperfect specimen and woman who dont really like sex but because they have been attacked and/or didnt get enough attention from their daddies will grit their teeth and get through it to get the attention and romance. I am not demeaning the fact that this is some peoples story BUT dont go calling these books "everyman" and "everywoman". newsflash Shannon: there are women who struggle with real lust. there are women who want sex and thier husbands dont and they struggle to stay pure. there are women who are sick and tired of wondering what the hell is wrong with them because their issues are not just like yours. your problems are but a narrow slice of the christian pie. unfortunately, because Mr Arturburn and the folks he has found to coauthor his series are the only ones out there willing to talk about this stuff...people who fit the stereotypcial mold seem to make up the vast majority of people willing to open their mouths about their relationship difficulties. 5 stars (I would like to clarify something) - I have not read this book yet, but am going to soon. 4 stars (So far, so good) - I'm 26 years old and for the past 5 years, I have compromised myself for the sake of being in a relationship. I have decided that I do not want to do this anymore and recently began searching for reading material to help me (along with my Bible of course). Yesterday, when I saw this book, I felt compelled to buy it. I'm on page 43...and so far, so good. I must admit that it's made me blush a few times because the writings are so frank, but I appreciate Mrs. Ethridge's honesty especially since my parents we unable to counsel me in this manner. I would recommend that parents read it along with their children so that they can answer the many questions that will be asked...and of course, the many times that blushing will happen. It deals with the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual aspects as a whole to be completley pure. It showed that It was not just sexual abstinence but self control, thought control, and God's expectations. I couldn't totally relate to the book only because the guys that I go out with are truely living their lives as disciples of christ and have God on their mind. My mentality is that if this guy at school, or work..etc can't lead me spiritually and help me get to heaven, then he is not someone I will date. which rules out every guy except the ones at church. we double date and do things that glorify god and in the book she kind of pinned every guy as a sex addict or something and there are no christian guys trying to be sexually pure. 5 stars (An Answer to Our Prayer of S.O.S.) - My soon-to-be-husband and I try to live as closely to His will and word as we can, but even so, disagreements had been tearing us apart recently. Even as we approach the doorstep of marriage, we'd begun to have doubts because of the frequent misunderstandings. He heard a radio spot on a Christian station talking about the book and, in a desperate attempt to mend our relationship, he mentioned it to me. I was just as frustrated as he was, so I bought it the next day. I read the whole book in about 3 hours. It was an easy read and, for someone so anxious to make things better, I couldn't put it down. He was at work when I read it in its entirity, but last night was eye-opening and awe-inspiring. Ladies, I highly recommend making a list of questions to ask your significant other/husband while reading. So many things occurred to me, even things like, "Do you really see it this way?" or, "Is this really how you feel when I say/do ____?" We assume that men are all simpletons, and they play the role rather convincingly sometimes, but this book gives great insight. Because of simple changes in wording, I was able to understand quite a few things about him that I thought I knew (but didn't get) before. The conversation we had based on the questions I wrote ironed out SO many things that had been plaguing us for several MONTHS; we haven't been this happy since the few spark-filled days after we first met. Finally, I must add something I found very helpful from this book. For longer than I've known my husband-to-be, I've struggled with depression. He's often encouraged me (in a concerned way, not a degrading one) to do things like lose weight or be active or have a more active social/spiritual life. I took these things to be insults, which only deepened my hole of worthlessness and low self-esteem. 5 stars (Informative Read) - I must say I was leery about reading yet another "how to" book about dating but after strong encouragement from others who have read the book, I purchased it and must admit I was very pleased and refer back to it quite a bit. I've just recently started dating again after a long hiatus, but as this book states, I was taking care and healing self so I can attract the kind of man for me. He provides pointers and tips and believe me they actually work. This particular time in my life I have a very healthy and fun outlook towards dating. I would strongly recommend this book. 5 stars (Reel it in!) - Men Are Like Fish is a practical, humorous easy to read guide on the basics of men and women together and individually. An enjoyable book, it holds lots of anecdotes for dealing with the beginnings of relationships. Goodness knows getting started is often one of the hardest parts. There are lists and features in here that breakdown and explain the behavior of men from a vantage point most women do not think of. It includes reasons why guys run away and things women shouldn't do. I read this book during the time I was waiting in jury duty (between trial times) and I could not put it down. The author is straight forward and uses basic, real-life examples most people can relate to. 4 stars (HUMAN FACTORS) - I AM A BIG FAN OF THE AUTHOR, AND HAVE USED HIS WORKS IN THE PRACTICE OF MY WORK MANY TIMES, THE BOOK, IS GOOD WITH MANY PRACTICAL EXAMPLES, BUT SADLY DOES NOT SEEM TO TELL ME ANYMORE THAN I ALREADY KNEW. ....I WAS HOPING FOR MORE. THE BOOKLET NEEDS UPDATING. SUPERB THOUGH AS A REFERENCE BOOK. 3 stars (great reference - cd is pretty worthless) - this book is a great reference for those who deal in any way with the human form. i, for example, am a 3d character animator and this book is perfect for nailing correct human proportions and visualizing range of motion. however, the accompanying cd is basically an advertisement for ErgoForms, the autocad version of the drawings in the book. only the 1% man drawing (the smallest average male figure)is included on the cd, which is pretty useless for what i need. if the book weren't so expensive i'd give it a four star rating. i thought i was getting more on the cd to warrant the price. 4 stars (Very useful, but use with care) - This is the easiest to use and probably most comprehensive book of human measurement, in my opinion. The data provided in this book is of extreme value to anybody designing anything that physically interacts with human bodies. This is the only complete source of anthropometric data, that I know of, for children of virtually every age range. However, some of the extrapolated data in the book is impractical for real use. For example, children's furniture dimensions recommended by this book are generally too small as they appear to be based upon exact proportions of adult recommendations. This is inappropriate because children's bodies and minds are not exact scale models of adult bodies. Overall, though, I still recommend this book highly, but also recommend very careful use of it. ...

5 stars (For Novices and Those Who Think They're Pros, Too!) - My knowledge of football is limited but I've always enjoyed the game. Holly Robinson Peete writes with humor as well as honing in on the "fears" of women who don't understand the game. I learned a lot and refer to it as I watch this year's onslaught of games. She also provides interesting anecdotal comments and facts about the history of the game and its famous and infamous players. 5 stars (Finally!! It all makes sense) - As a true b-ball fan, I never really appreciated the great american sport of football. I became more and more intrigued by the sport as I followed our Carolina Panthers to the Superbowl, season before last. Although I religiously watched all of the playoff games, I certainly couldn't hold my own in a conversation about the games. But now I have to say I believe I can. Holly, girl, you did the dog gone thing. Men even seemed to be the impressed by the mere fact that I was reading a book about football (as I found at the airport earlier this week).
