Nancy Drew- Last Train to Blue Moon Canyon

4 stars (One of Their Greatest Games) - This is one of herinteractive's best games. However i finished it only 2-3 days. I think it should have lasted 1 more day (on the jr. level). Last Train to Blue Moon Canyon is great other wise. I really like it. The ending/ culprit is really shocking and the puzzles (Pipe) were really cool. So, if u like all of the other games, get this one too!!! 4 stars (Great Game for All Ages!) - This game was definitely not what I thought it would be. I was expecting a really easy game, mostly geared toward young kids and something I may be bored with. Not the case... THE GOOD STUFF 1. The characters - the mannerisms and the personalities of the characters were great. I loved the phone chat with George & Bess. 2. The puzzles - they had just enough challenge to keep you on your toes. It stumped me at one point which actually made me happy. They had just the right amount of serious puzzles and fun ones so you couldn't get completely frustrated. 3. The graphics - A+! I was afraid they wouldn't be as good of quality but I was wrong. The detail was pretty darn good for a game geared towards young kids. The mine ride was the most realistic I have ever seen in a computer game. THE NOT SO GOOD STUFF 1. The length of the game. I'm sure they know what they are doing when it comes to timing the game to keep kids attention but I thought the plot could have gone on a little more. 2. The HARDYS. Ok, they're cute and all but seriously I got a little miffed that they got to sit around while I (as Nancy) did all the work. 3. Locations. I thought that they could have expanded on the areas a little more. I would have liked to travel to a few more places before ending the game. Also I think the train should have had more rooms to explore. A lot of time was wasted trying to see if the doors in the sleeper car opened. This was the first Nancy Drew game I have ever played and after this, it's definitely NOT the last. 5 stars (Can't fail with Nancy ...

The Girlfriends- Guide to Pregnancy

5 stars (Hilarious!!! at last a book talking about you and not the baby) - Recommend it for everyone! my husband liked it a lot too. I wish the first chapter of the girlsfriend guide to the first year was in this book instead. BUy Both and read them before the baby is born. I got hit by a postpartum blues stage that did not let me read through the other book until I had passed that stage... should I had had the other book or read the first chapter....I might have been a little less concerned about feeling like an alien had possesed me.... 5 stars (Funny Pregnancy Read) - This is an awesome book that every first time mom should read. It isn't as scary, wordy, and technical as "What to expect when your expecting". I used the girlfriend's guide as a secondary book to that one. It is very good for a few laughs and not so good on the technical information but that is what the other book is for. 1 stars (I truly couldn't stand this) - Yes I know she is trying to be funny, and sarcastic, but it mostly comes off as mean and whiney. I wanted a light read, not this condescending instructional book which really isn't any more informative than any other pregnancy guide I've picked up. In my opinion, its NEVER A good idea to tell your husband "and that's the child you didn't want!" after a baby he was less than enthused about is born and makes him smile. Can we say marriage counseling? And I don't think pregnancy gives you an excuse to treat everyone around you badly. And please don't tell a pregnant woman that your friends, who love you and are trying to support you, are outright lying when they tell you how good you look and how little your body has changed. You probably NEED that type of encouragement from friends, and hearing that your friends MUST be lying is just destructive. I couldn't even get through this one, I think this book seriously needs a rewrite and the author, a clue that you don't need to be mean to be funny. ...

Your Pregnancy Week by Week- Fifth Edition

3 stars (One of the best pregnancy books out there) - I am having my second child, so I purchased the 5th edition book. I loved the 4th as it was very informative and had a detailed drawing of what the baby looked like each week. The 5th edition is a bit different. I still think it's very informative and the best book to have to guide you through these 9 months, but I wish the doctor would have put all the "scary" medical information in a "special considerations" chapter at the end of the book. It's a bit frustrating to have to read something negative every week. I also wish the doctor could explain a bit more about the development of the baby instead of just a few generalized sentences. Overall, it's alot more detailed than others out there. 4 stars (Good for first-time pregnancies) - I bought this book, along with "What to Expect when you're Expecting". I liked this book BETTER because of the week-by-week changes in baby/me vs. the monthly chapters in WTEWYE. As far as some folks saying it's negative, all baby books I've looked at will tell you what can go wrong. I would rather know what CAN possibly go wrong and the symptons so I can know if it's an issue I should be contacting my doctor. 1 stars (Your Money: Down the Drain) - Over the past 22 weeks I've been reading a number of books, this being one of them. Your Pregnancy Week by Week is organized in 6-7 page chapters, one for each week of the pregnancy. Each week gives a couple paragraphs on changes going on with the baby, changes going on with the pregnant mom-to-be, and then spends 2-3 pages covering other topics of potential interest to the pregnant woman. Therein lies the problem. Potential interest does not mean necessary relevance, and the fact that each week you get a taste of potentially interesting information means that if in week 11 you have a question about the difference between doulas and midwives, you have to wait until week 19 to read about it. One chapter spends it's entire 'Things You...

Down Came the Rain - My Journey Through Postpartum Depression

4 stars (Rainy days) - Despite the misinformed rantings of people like Tom Cruise, clinical depression is a terrible and widespread problem. The best description I've heard yet is that it's a cancer of the soul. And of all the types, postpartum depression is perhaps the most neglected -- some people don't even know it exists, let alone how it should be treated. That is the heart of Brooke Shields' memoir "Down Came the Rain: My Journey Through Postpartum Depression." This is not a glitzy showbiz autobiography, but a wrenching look at one woman's struggle to have a baby, and then to regain her own happiness. In 2001, Shields married producer/writer Chris Henchy, and soon they were trying for a baby. But because of cervical scarring, getting pregnant was difficult, and despite all the people prattling about adoption and relaxation, Shields and Henchy tried in vitro fertilization (IVF), and after a traumatic miscarriage, finally had a baby girl. But baby Rowan was less than a day old when Shields began feeling depression and anxiety attacks. Initially she chalked this up to the difficult C-section birth and the newness of the experience, but her feelings continued over the months that followed. Though she tried to tackle her postpartum depression by herself, the help of friends and the drug Paxil were what brought her back out of the pit. The first fifty pages of "Down Came the Rain" make it seem like this will be an up-and-down story, with generous amounts of self-deprecating humour. Shields lightens the mood with humour and a willingness to reveal her unflattering or goofy thoughts, such as thinking about those chest-bursting scenes from "Alien" during a C-section. But after that, a grimmer tone takes over the book. Shields' detailed descriptions of her torment, doubts and increasingly deteriorated life are almost harrowing, as well as her description of how she couldn't even connect with her newborn daughter. It's exhilarating when she finally beats the po...

Belly Laughs- The Naked Truth About Pregnancy and Childbirth

5 stars (Made My Fiancee Laugh!) - I bought this book for my fiancee to help her through her pregnancy. I bought Jenny's book to give her some good natured comic relief from this sometimes difficult period, and it sure worked wonders. She said it was a quick read, but it had her laughing constantly. And she would lend it to her friends when they would need it. Though I bought a few more serious books for more definitive information, this was a great change of pace. I guess I should read it too. Thanks Jenny for putting a few smiles back on my Mommy to Be's face. 5 stars (Best Pregnancy Book For a Laugh) - This was by far my favorite of all the pregnancy books I've read. I was in tears from laughing so hard at numerous points throughout the book. 5 stars (A must read for any "Real" Pregnancy) - I was having a tough time of it during my 4th month of pregnancy. I was still throwing up, my ob wanted me to put on some weight which my husband took as a sign to force feed me, and I had literally 20 emails from extended family giving advice on keeping food down. My favorite "You need to eat more meat, gravy, and potatoes"...An Aunt who is an OB Nurse prescribed this book! The day it arrived, I read it cover to cover! Jenny McCarthy's frankness on pregancy from morning sickeness, sore boobs hemrroids, to fear of "pooing" on the delivery table is a welcome relief for all of us preggos who are sick of hearing about the pregancy glow and know that "What to Expect when you are Expecting" doesn't really cut it! Thank you Jenny - you saved my life. I am soo glad that I am not alone! ...

Taking Charge of Your Fertility- The Definitive Guide to Natural Birth Control- Pregnancy Achievemen

4 stars (Very informative) - Great book. It is well written and explains a great deal about my body. 4 stars (What I thought I already knew...) - This book taught me things that I thought I already knew... boy, was I wrong! It helped me understand my cycle and helped my husband and I with our "family planning" more than what I ever thought it would! I am not a "reader" - I don't like read books because I get bored with them... but this book was different! It held my interest very easily - before I knew it I had read the entire thing! So if you are trying to conceive or trying to prevent it, this book is for you. 5 stars (TCOYF was especially helpful.) - I found this book to be insightful of how our bodies work and show us when fertility is peaking. I have recommended it to friends. ...

What to Expect the First Year- Second Edition

5 stars (Good Read & Indsepensible) - I can't say how many times this book has come in handy. I am in the military stationed far from Mom and the rest of my family. It certainly saved on my long distance! 5 stars (Review by first time mom!) - I found this book to be especially useful in the first few months of my baby's birth. From my exprience these first few months can be quite daunting simply becasue everything is so new. The slightest thing is cause for concern and there were questions all the time. This book provided me answers to all of them. Like the sudden crying bouts in the evening which may not necessarily be attributed to colic (i knew this after reading the entire section on colic - which was an eye opener!) or the spit ups and what to make of them based on their texture. My daughter had blood in her [...] and her [...] were engorged after birth. Of course I thought the worst! The book explained why and that it was perfectly normal. Boy was I relieved! One night I awoke to find my 2 1/2 month old baby with a stuffed nose and having a hard time breathing. There were some excellent home remedies recommended in this book for such a situation. Of course at the the time I simply called my doctor. But I later found that the same solution offered by my doctor was in the home remedy section of the book. I promptly read all the home remedies suggested. There is also a wonderful section on breastfeeding, expressing milk, what kind of pump to buy etc. Baby's grandparents really wanted me to feed her water in case she was dehydrated. I needed only to refer them to the relevant page which tells you why it needen't be given. I found the bits on how to tell if baby is getting enough breastmilk to be most useful too. You can never tell especially if you're feeding on demand. Just to highlight how comprehensive this book is, it also had some great advice on how to deal with baby's well meaning but overbearing grandparents. There is also other basic information...

The New Contented Little Baby Book

5 stars (Do this from day one -- no need to cry it out!!!) - I suggest all new parents buy this book and the No-Cry Sleep Method book. We regretted letting our sensitive child cry too long one night--now we will only let him complain and cry mildly before we respond. Responding builds trust--but sometimes a little crying is all he and we can do (if he's fed, burped and just doesn't want to sleep). This book hasn't been a perfect solution for our baby, but it keeps mom sane and well-rested!! Use this as a flexible guide and see what works for your little one--I also keep a daily journal to track progress/problems/tips for future use. My baby is seven weeks old and has definitely benefited from the day naps and sleeping a relatively predictable night schedule. I would recommend that mom's breastfeed more often than Ford suggests (for milk supply and comfort), but hey, if your baby is not so demanding feel lucky--and definitely take her advice from day one. This book helped me identify painful reflux in my baby (demand feeding disguised it) and gas culprits in my diet, and increase my milk supply. Basically, being on a sensible schedule helps real problems rise to the surface. My big challenges every day are being creative in helping my child sleep and stay awake for the recommended hours, and working with the reflux. We are off-schedule frequently--but that's better than being exhausted and totally distracted by constant worry. When our baby sleeps in his crib, I get real time with my husband, or time to myself to relax. I highly recommend this book! 5 stars (Sanity, Sanity,Sanity) - For progressive mum's everywhere. thanks to Gina, I have two happy contented kids, who get enough sleep and food. Excellent guide for first time mums breast feeding or otherwise, and a lifesaver for those of us with kids close together that are trying to hold it together. I have had 15 friends ask me for mine, and they are thrilled, enraptured and throughly enjoying parenthoo...

What to Expect When You-re Expecting- Third Edition

5 stars (For Women) - My husband wans't very interested in this particular book because he said "he already knew everything he needs to know". I think I should have bought a more fairytale type book as I think it makes him nervous to hear about anything that can go wrong with his first baby! 5 stars (Wonderful for first time moms-to-be!) - This is an excellent reference for first time moms-to-be, chock full of scientific explanations and situational questions that cover all the bases. And it is the only book my OB recommended! 5 stars (The Mommy Bible) - This is a WONDERFUL book! My husband got it for me with our first baby, and what a life saver it was. I brought it with me wherever I went. Anytime I felt anything strange, I would look it up in this book and there was my answer. Now we are expecting our second baby and I'm using it again. It's a great book for rookie parents or experienced ones. I highley recommend it. It's also great if the hubbies read it, they get to know what we are going through better and can help us along the way. ...

Varney-s Midwifery- Fourth Edition

5 stars (A must read) - I have always found Varney to be useful and easy to read, especially in comparison to Speroff or Gabbe. I think that this book was never intended to be the definitive text on home birth. If a midwife's interest lies in homebirth, seek out books that cater to that option. I found the skills sections especially helpful. It isn't Varney's job to unite midwives, her primary job is to educate. You can not teach the spirit of midwife through a book, that's where mentoring comes into play. This is certainly a must have for all practicing midwives, regardless of educational background. 2 stars (Technically accurate, boring read) - I am impressed by Varney's vast knowledge of hospital procedures as they relate to midwifery care. However, I found this to be "textbook" as a very boring read. Her information did not really cover the practice outside the hospital setting as thoroughly as would be needed for someone praticing in that setting. Her information would be most appreciated by the CNM and the L&D nurse - a great resource for them. 3 stars (This is a good reference book, but not the best for homebirt) - This book is a good reference book, but not the best one for homebirth midwives. Myle's, and Anne' Frye's books I have found to be more applicable in my practice. To the above person that thinks that Circumsision should not be addresses, I could not disagree more. Circumsision is a subject that should be addressed prenatally, and Since midwives are supposed to provide basic Post-partum care to the mother and baby during the first six weeks It is essentual that midwives and parents are educated about the issue antapartum ...

Nancy Drew- The Haunted Carousel

4 stars (almost a 5 STAR) - This is a fun game, interesting, good characters, quality graphics, sound effects, etc. It IS a little shorter than some other ND games. I still think it's worth the purchase. A tad disappointed that Nancy does not get to ride on the rollercoaster, but she does have some interaction with it! You play both games and puzzles within this PC game - most are a lot of fun. 5 stars (The Haunted Carousel) - The Haunted Carousel is one of many great Nancy Drew games. You, of course, play as Nancy Drew, on a mission to solve the mysterious hauntings of a carousel in an amusement park. Sometimes you help Nancy get out of sticky situations, or help her snoop into the amusement park's staffs' things. I recommend all the Nancy Drew games! ...

Nancy Drew - The Secret of Shadow Ranch

5 stars (New Review!) - I like this item B0001XLSG6 very much You should read more reviews to find out more about it 5 stars (Her life is perfect!) - I Really like this game. it is so challenging and so realistic. (as you can probably tell, I have read the book too) the only thing strange is that alot of the parts in the book were replaced by "searching on your cell phone" or something. I think it would have been even more cool if it was in the early 1960's like it is in the books. Also, I don't think that you should have to be 10 to play the game. It is hard but it just takes you longer to play. But still, overall, This game is great and you should buy it. 5 stars (Secret of Shadow Ranch) - The life on a ranch is not as easy as it looks. Sure, feeding animals, picking vegatables, and getting eggs from the chicken coop is easy, but what about the part when you get attacked by a chicken who hates it when you try to take the eggs away from her nest in her presence? This is my favorite Nancy Drew game and book, and I beat it in...3 days. Basically a day for, well, a day. When a phantom horse shows up and causes trouble, its up to you, as Nancy Drew, to figure out who, or what, is behind it. Can you figure out who it is, and still have time for a slice of cake that you made? More than 2 thumbs up! ...

Nancy Drew Secrets Can Kill

3 stars ( Nancy Drew Secrets Can Kill ) - This was the 1st Nancy Drew game, and I have played all the games and I know that this is the least challenging of them all. The print-out walkthrough is only 6 pages long compared to 20+ on some. If you're new to Nancy Drew games I recommend getting this one first because it's so easy. 4 stars (Great game!) - I love all Nancy Drew games, but this one is sadly my least favorite. Don't get me wrong, I still loved it! The only reason I'm not giving it 5 starts is because of the graphics (the other Nancy Drew games have real looking people, this had cartoons) and having to change cd roms when going to a new location. That was kind of annoying. But other than those two minor things, it's a great game! 1 stars (YUCK) - I did not like this game at all. It is buggy and the Save and Load area is slow and does not work very well. I also dislike the switching back and forth between DISC 1 and 2. Save your money, this game not worth the money. Buy something else. ...

Nancy Drew - Curse of Blackmoor Manor

4 stars (Very Challenging) - These games get scarier and more challenging with each release. This is one of the few Nancy Drew games I haven't finished yet. This one is REALLY freaky. If your younger child (8-10 years old) wants to try a Nancy Drew game, I recommend letting them play a few others before getting this one. This one is really, truly SCARY. If you are experienced with the Nancy Drew games, then you will enjoy this one. 5 stars (The Curse of Blackmoor Manor) - Ok, this is the Nancy Drew game that I haven't beaten...yet. It is freaky yet interesting, in a way. Ok, so you have bad dreams, and you hear noices, and things, but there IS a slide involved! You'll find that out once you get the game. I like this game, even though it's a "little on the spooky side" as Nancy takes to calling it. Can you figure out why Eleanor, supposedly the witch in the family of the Penvellyns, or the beast of blackmoor, just came around and "popped in for a visit?" A game of freaky music, adventure, and puzzles, this is a 5 star game you MUST GET! By the way, its good to use when you have friends sleeping over, because then you won't be as scared. 5 stars ( Nancy Drew - Curse of Blackmoor Manor ) - Lot's of fun. Great puzzles to solve. ...

Nancy Drew- Danger on Deception Island

4 stars (The Final Scene) - This game was exciting. I'm not really one for games that make me nervous and this one did. I was too much of a whimp to play it myself because it is so life like and makes you feel like you're actually in the game, but I watched my brother play it (he wanted to know why I didn't want to play it so he played it). It really was a good game. 5 stars (You go, Nancy Drew!) - This game is so fun, and unlike most mystery games, it isn't bloody, or anything for that matter. I am a huge fan of the Nancy Drew books also. 2 years ago when I got this game, It made me so nervous, I was sweating inside my new Christmas slippers! It is so realistic, and I acctually ended up having to ask my mom to help me with some parts. The characters aren't cartoony, either. here are my ratings on a scale from 1 to 5 (five being best): Storyline:5! Characters:4 music:5! Setting:5! The cool thing is that you get to explore the whole castle!(yeah CASTLE!) And you are snowed in. But I don't want to give anything else away. You'll see for yourself! This game is soo challenging! It is so worth the money! 5 stars (One of my Favorites!) - Imagine this: you're snowbound in a fancy Wiconsin hotel where you're supposed to be on a ski vacation. The manager just told you someone vandalized the historic library... and you're one of the only four people who made it to the hotel! There's Lisa Ostrum, the journalist who seems a bit too eager to become your friend, Jacque Brunais, a ski instructor from France who just lost the Olympics and is convinced something in the hotel will restore his name, Professor Hotchkiss, an old French teacher who is convinced that Marie Antoinette was a good-hearted person and is destined to prove it, and Mr. Egan the hotel manager who apparently has a criminal record and ties to this hotel. Now you feel it's up to you, as Nancy Drew, to question suspects and unveil a new page in French history. Out of the so far 13 Nancy Drew games, this one...

5 stars (Great game!) - I loved the game but I found it a little scary. It was tricky and challenging, so it lasted a long time. It was spooky so I had to run upstairs sometimes and my dad played it for me. 3 stars (just ok...) - MY kids are 8, and this game just did not keep their interest. Although as an adult, I thought it looked interesting. 5 stars (Message in a Haunted Mansion) - Message in a Haunted Mansion is the 3rd Nancy Drew game of the series! I beat it also, and I love it because it is kinda scary. You hear noises, and see ghosts sometimes too! Some parts you'll have to use "Second Chance" which is a great thing to use when you did something wrong, and you need to redo it, so you can do it right. Nancy Drew- Secret of the Scarlet Hand

5 stars (Great ) - THis game was so much fun! it is long but one of the best games i have ever played! 5 stars (Secrets Can Kill (12 year old)) - I've read the book on secrets can kill, it's very good, surprisingly the game was as good! You're undercover Nancy Drew trying to solve a mystery at a small high school in Florida, with a big murder mystery of a boy named Jake, your contact is Daryl, there a puzzles to solve and you'll find each of the suspects have a secret, later in the game you'll find out that Jake silenced them by making them be his servants. Anyways I didn't really have much patience as a detective (it would take me hours just to find the clues) so i usually go for help from the websites, uhs is a really good one, it just tells you where the puzzles are and what you have to do to get to the end but it doesn't totally help you figure out the puzzles, and it doesn't tell you who the murderer is. Anyway I really enjoyed this game it's the second Nancy Drew game I've played besides final scene. WARNING: the characters are two d, i know very disappointing but it's still a very good game. Well I won't give any clues away so you'll just have to figure them out :) (or get some online help ;)) Find the murdererm but don't get murdered yourself, and if you do there's always a second chance. 5 stars (secret of the scarlet hand is very GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) - I love the nancy drew games they are always really good and this 1 was 1 of the best!!If get this nancy drew game u will not be dissapointed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ...

Nancy Drew- Secret Of the Old Clock

4 stars (Nancy Drew returns in keen retro style on her twelfth adventure) - Nancy Drew turns 75 this year, and she's still got her youthful sense of sleuthing... in fact, she's as keen as when she first came out in 1930. In honour of Nancy's 75th birthday, Her Interactive has set Nancy's newest mystery "Secret of the Old Clock" in 1930s America before the start of the depression. Nancy drives a sporty blue roadster, listens to jazz records, and talks nervously of the possible Depression, while using expressions such as "keen," "horsefeathers" and "the bee's knees." Nancy's first mystery (based on her first two books Secret of the Old Clock and Mystery at Lilac Inn) finds her investigating mysterious happenings at the Lilac Inn. The inn is run by seventeen-year-old orphaned Emily, whose mother died recently, and her guardian Jane Willoughby, but Emily has asked Nancy to come help her. It turns out that she's been hearing things, and various "accidents" have occurred. The plot quickly thickens, leaving Nancy to puzzle out an eccentric millionaire and a forged will that has high stakes for all involved: Jim Archer, banker on the edge of ruin, Richard Topham, "clairvoyant" who lives in the deceased millionaire's house, Emily and her guardian. As with previous titles, a good deal of puzzle solving is chore related, of the "I scratch your back, you scratch mine" mentality. This means that Nancy must complete chores for other characters before she can receive the necessary information (or inventory) to proceed. Some of these are easier than others: arranging pies, catching a 19-inch largemouth bass, finding toys for a children's orphanage, picking up raffle tickets, and sewing a dress (fiendishly hard, and I'm a cross-stitcher!). This game sees the addition of two new features, both of which I found unnecessarily frustrating: Nancy's blue roadster, which must be filled up with gas and keeping an eye out for flat tires, and money, which Nancy must spend to solve puzzles ...
