The Myth of Islamic Tolerance- How Islamic Law Treats Non-Muslims

1 stars (Only ever telling HALF the truth) - I am always shocked by non-Muslim writers when they write about Islam with such biased and present it as the truth! If you are going to discuss a topic academically do so critically, presenting all the information so people can make-up their own minds. I agree to a certain extent with the other reviewer (Zaid) when he says `The myth of Muslim tolerance' however I am a person who would not even like to label it under such a general title. I would prefer `The Myth of (the particular ruler of the period) tolerance', which is being far more honest. Are there no records of oppressive `MEN' throughout history in any country or in any religion? Or is this someone, having seen a market, just trying to make a buck by selling a book? Surely we have enough hate in the world! Here is a quote from the Koran. It is crystal clear. "Allah does NOT forbid you to deal JUSTLY and KINDLY with those who did NOT fight against you on account of your religion and did NOT drive you out of your homes. Verily, Allah LOVES those who deal with fairness (Surah 60: Verse 8)' Just as in the Bible - in the Koran there are verses that state - an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth etc. In other words you can give as good as you get, but it clearly states you cannot go beyond that and there is a clause! - if you forgive, forget and treat your offender with gentleness and kindness you get a far greater reward from Allah! How can this be a religion of violence? I advise people to not rely on books written about Islam, but instead pick up the Koran and read it - make up your own mind - don't let others do it for you. You owe it to yourself not to have your thinking molded by someone else. 4 stars (Read this book and start thinking) - Great book to get you thinking about your current small business or one that you are planning. This book takes you through the three types of people : technican, entrepreneur, and manager. Guess what you have to be all three and in good balance. Gerber then discusses how to apply the thinking behind a franchise to your own small business even if you have no intention of ever franchising it. He helps you think about your business from a systems point of view. Gerber spends the rest of the book talking about the business development process, which includes your primary aim, marketing strategy, systems strategy, people strategy, management strategy, etc. I have run a small consulting business for 5 years and I wish had read this book years ago. Oh well, never too late to get on track. 5 stars (Don't Own A Business Without It) - Michael Gerber is the best thing that ever happened to the small business owners of this world. Reading this book changed the way I thought about business. Today I am a marketing coach for professional service firms and small service business owners. One of the first books I recommend they devour is The E-Myth. Actually, I recommend everything Gerber has written. 4 stars (It was as if M Gerber had been watching me) - A great, easy to read book with powerful principles told in an acessible manner. The Power of Myth

5 stars (Thoroughly enjoyed) - Wonderful audio presentation of the Bill Moyer interview with Joseph Campbell. We originally checked it out from the library for a road trip, but just had to have our own copy. Listened to it twice on a recent cross-country road trip. 3 stars (Amazing Mythological Comparisons) - This is written in an "interview" form. I probably would get more out of the DVD format. It has very interesting comparisons of our life to mythology. Although very interesting, some ideas seem a little far-fetched. 4 stars (Intriguing, important but sometimes contradictory) - In our current secular culture where everything is de-mythologized, this is an important work. Campbell shows how the existential angst and meaninglessnes of modern toil is inextricably linked with our devaluation of mythology in the 21st century. From a philosophical point of view I especially admired the colourful way in which Campbell accounted for the dualism of the human predicament eg. In the Garden of Eden fall from unity into the knowledge of "good and evil". Buddhist conceptions of duality were also well integrated. However, in parts I found Campbell's message somewhat contradictory. Especially concerning the gnostic view that the material world is "bad", and the eternal world of the spirit, our real home. In some instances he seems to support this gnostic view, in others he wants us to embrace the tactile reality we find ourselves in, submerging ourselves in its goodness. Perhaps I just misunderstood. I would welcome enlightenment from fellow readers. Perhaps the greatest "take-away" for me was the value of investing myth into your everday world. As the Postmodern philosopher Rorty said: there is no true view of the world (even the scientific one), only a view which is the most useful. Personally I often find the meaninglessness of the materialist view pretty useless (for me, anyway), and a view rich with myth and mystical connotation might be infinitely more livable....

1 stars (Filth) - My wife and I are both redheads, so we were really looking forward to reading this book. It is absolutely terrible. It is vulgar, anti Christian with no redeeming qualities. My wife could not even finish it. I read the whole thing hoping that it would get better. It did not. I sure hope that it never makes the library. 1 stars (Poorly written) - I found a number of inaccuracies in this book, causing me to wonder about the veracity of other information presented. I was at the Witch Camp mentioned in the book; the author not only had several facts wrong, she cited two different numbers for total attendance; each figure was incorrect, but I was amazed that an editor didn't catch the inconsistency of her inaccuracies. In her stretch to use "fresh" language, she sometimes completely ignored the meanings of words. While using "hair" terms, such as "braided" cleverly, the impact was dulled by redundancy. The book contains many loose ends. For instance, she has heard that witches are often red-headed and goes to witch camp to check on this - yet she never tells us how many - if any - red heads were there. On the other hand, she claims that there were a preponderance of witches named Lilith - personally, I know of only two by that name in attendance then. She claims that the Vikings were red headed. While this may be so, the more common assumption is that Vikings were blond; Eric the Red was so-called because of his unusual and therefore distinguishing coloring. Perhaps an editor could have salvaged this book; as it is, it's a carelessly written bit of nonsense. 4 stars (Currently reading . . .) - Having a blast reading this book right now. As a red head I remember the taunts and I can identify with nearly everything so far. The only thing I am curious about is the sect of wicca that does this witch camp. Age of Mythology Gold Edition

4 stars (Hours of fun with just a touch of educational value) - OK... so the comment of educational value might be a little much if you aren't interested in mythology and choose not to look at any of the context sensitive help, however if you do you'll be surprised at the amount of effort that went into the background that was documented for this game. The game itself is a blast having grown from the same mold as Age of Empires and it's predecessors. The inability to zoom in closer to the action or rotate the camera does make it difficult to control at times. The campaigns that are included are fun, but have little replay value. This is more than made up for with the ability to play online and/or create new scenarios (can sometimes be a time consuming experience if you want to create something large) or generate them randomly (to get back playing quickly) 5 stars (Extreme Gaming: Massively Multiplayer, stunningly strategic, stupendous storyline, gourgeos graphics!!!) - Have you played Starcraft, Age of Empires, Age of Kings, Rise of Rome, or Star Wars Battlefield? If you have, you should know what this is like... Create your civilization, decide what units to concentrate on, pick which god to worship, prioritize your defenses and your offensives, thats exactly what this is like. Differences for AoE, AoK, etc, are that they have converted the game into 3-D, creating stunning effects of biuldings, units, rivers, and forests. Also it has a twist with the gods, so you may worship the gods of your choice, and become different advantags. There are three main cultures, each with different gods and sub-gods. They are Greek, Egyptian, and Norse. Each has unique advantages and dissadvantages, offering many hours of play. 5 stars (The Titans Add On) - It was a very fun game. It would definitly be on my Christmas list. It might have done better though with more civilizations, but not so many that you haven't played them all. 4 stars (EXCITING! but...) - I think in my personal opinion AOM is a fun, interactive game. with nine major gods to chose from I was imadetly was adictid to the game being 10 years old I loved the the game adrealin compared to the games that I play on gamecube. The one thing I don't like aboute this game is the the begining. often times whan my vilages are colecting resoces I often find my self bord and soon I turn off the game. overal Age Of Mytholagy is a fun. action-paced game. If you like the main game, then you will also like this expansion. I did note that this expansion is quite a bit harder than the main game. I ended up playing it at a lower difficulty, because I realized I just wasn't having fun. This expansion adds a few gameplay twists. Many scenarios require you to either hold a position or protected certain things for a specified amount of time. Personally, I like scenarios where I am on the offense rather than the defense a lot better. There also are a number of scenarios where you are somewhat limited in what you can do. Often, you can not create settlements for instance, which means that a lot of things you could normally do (like creating new workers) you can not do here. You simply have to do with what you are given. Overall, I liked playing this expansion, although I liked the main game better. ...

Natural Nutrition for Dogs and Cats

5 stars (The Great Resource) - This book is the best and most easy to read for up to date holistic treatments for your pet. I own a lot of animal books, and this one is a keeper!! 4 stars (A great starting point) - Having known relativley little on the subject of raw natural diets, I found this book to be an excellent starting point. It is easy to read, consise, to the point, and is very encouraging for the novice. It has a sample monthly menu which I found invaluable when changing my dogs over to the nautral diet. I have since read many books on the subject but I refer back to this book the most. I would have liked more specific information regarding feeding puppies and their specific growing needs. 3 stars (Too basic, even for a beginner) - I was new to RAW feeding prior to buying this book. I had done some research and reading on the Internet and already understood the concept of RAW feeding - the core food groups and the recommended proportions of each. However, I needed a book that would help me make the transition from just reading to actually preparing the meals for my pets. This book did not do it for me. It is more of a very basic "theory" book than a "practical" one. I bought the book online - if I had had a chance to flip through it first, I would have gone with another book. This book pretty much just explains what the food groups are, how they contribute to the health of your pets and the respective pros and cons. But, like I said, you can get this information for FREE on the Internet! Schultze only gives ONE easy recipe for BOTH dogs and cats, with varying amounts of ingredients depending on the weight of your pet. After joining a few RAW feeding discussion lists, I was told that most of the things I read in the book are NOT recommended by fellow raw feeders (eg: feeding GROUND meat, veggies, kelp & alfalfa supplements and BOTH cod-liver oil and fish oil, etc.) Even I knew going in that you can't use the same recipe for both dogs and cats and yet Schu...

Age of Mythology

3 stars (Fell short of an "Age" game.) - I love PC strategy games. I have to say that " Age of Mythology " was a let-down from the progression of the "Age of Empires" titles. I think " Age of Mythology " was probably being used by Ensemble Studios as stop-gap money earner, and also a building block for the next game in their AOE series. The Good: In Age of Mythology , Ensemble made the jump to a 3-D graphics engine, which is now expected from all RTS games by the gaming community. It also has that same "feel" of an "Age" game, and the same style and ease of use through the User-Interface. The cultural specialization of the games civilizations is also very well done. The Bad: One word - "scale". While the rest of the RTS genre was going "Epic" - massive battles, huge fortifications, very large maps, complicated economies, yada, yada... Ensemble went small scale with " Age of Mythology ". Don't expect to see more than around 120 units in any single army in this game. Also... the whole "Mytholgy" aspect may be a bit of a turn-off to those who are accustomed to the more "historical/real-world" background of the "Empires" series. The ugly: Graphics - Even when " Age of Mythology " was released, the detail was lack-luster, and obtuse, even with all the graphic bells 'n' whistles turned on. Note to Ensemble - if your going to go small scale when building a game, you need to make the graphics spectacular. My advice - if you are a big fan of the "Age of Empires" series, skip "Age of Mytholgy" altogether... hold out for "AOE III". 3 stars (Expansion is very disapointing) - Well the first one was very nice, making difrent types of units to counter or lead atackes waching the great graphics or using gods powers to shmash your enemiews to bits or to restor or units or even your economy, but the canpaingne way way way to short. unlike the other age of ****** games that ive played over the year this campaigne focuses on the same story over and over again i mean come on (...
