5 stars (Oz and Roizen make anatomy lessons entertaining and offer sound advice for staying healthy.) - `YOU: The Owner's Manual: An Insider's Guide to the Body that will Make You Healthier and Younger' is an interesting health book which teaches readers how the body works in relation to its anatomy and central systems, including hormonal, nervous, digestive, sensory organs, and immune. It also covers topics that deal with the brain, heart, digestive, reproductive glands, lungs, bones and joints. Dr. Mehmet Oz and Dr. Michael Roizen have managed to make learning these topics both entertaining and enjoyable by including illustrations of pathogenic creatures whose role it is to portray illnesses that harm the body. There are also illustrations of benevolent elf creatures whose role it is to guide readers through different parts of the body in terms of names and functionalities. The authors have also incorporated a sense of humor, trivia, and a diet plan. In terms of humor, we have analogies between the activities of muscle cells when engulfing deceased heart tissue and the fighting that regularly presents itself on daily talk shows. In terms of trivia, the authors discuss the frequency at which one should have one's thyroid level checked. They reveal the quantity of air biscuit floatation produced by an average human per day. They also expose information regarding the quantity of times that most persons engage in intercourse. Finally, the authors invite their readers to try a 10-day, 30-recipe diet plan designed to benefit certain systems of the body such as that of immunity. This is an important book because not only does it mention how diseases start and the consequent effects that they have on one's body, but it also provides readers with advice on how to prevent or quash conditions that bear the potentiality to endanger the quality of their lives. Moreover, it also offers advice for ways to preserve the body's health and youthfulness, which in the long run, co... 5 stars (Good reminders of things companies tend to forget) - I thought this book did a great job of conveying its message. To the reviewer who said "The sophisticated executive will not get past the first chapter. Both my husband and I are in upper management and have returned this book", I think you need to give it a chance. I'm sure some of the executives at my company would say the same thing, but as a 20 year employee, I can see many lessons that they could learn from this simple book. Many execs have blinders on - the point of the book is to help remove them! 5 stars (INSIDE THE MOUSE'S HEAD) - INSIDE THE MAGIC KINGDOM is a terrific read just to have a look at how Disney does what it does with its company and theme parks from the standpoint of customer service. Incredible stuff. You won't believe what pains Disney takes to make us more comfortable and, of course, amenable to making a return trip or purchase. The real "magic" of this book are the applications that anyone can make of its principles to a customer service or to attention to detail that one intends to make in ones own life. Disney does not own the principles here and they can be learned and used by anyone who wants to improve his organization's (or personal) customer service strategy. THE HORSEMAN 5 stars (McDisney) - Inside the Magic Kingdom is a great book when read just to get information about why Disney does what it does with its company and theme parks from the standpoint of customer service. The real power, as I see it, of this book come from seeing that, like McDonalds, Disney has discovered how to apply a customer service attitude across all areas of their business operations. Moreover, these principles are not proprietary and can be learned and applied by anyone seeking to improve his or her company's (or personal) customer service strategy. Read the book and apply the lessons and don't get too hung up on the dialogue of things. ... 4 stars (Makes Organization seem possible for even the messiest people!) - Excellent book with great tips, tricks, and encouragement for getting your life organized to be functional and to suit your needs. This book is lively and interesting as it tackles organizational problems, offering anecdotes and sympathy that ease the process. This book makes organization seem possible for even the messiest people! 5 stars (Great book) - Great guideline for someone who has never been organized or wouldn't know where to begin. Covers many areas (household, home office, office). Even suggests some tools. I loved it and reccommend it to everyone I know! 3 stars (worth buying) - the first few chapters get to the heart of the problem and solve what the emotional barriers are for us not staying organized. those chapters were great! i also like the way she addresses the actual act of organizing. she encourages you to organize with your natural instinct/personality and that there isn't one set system for everyone. she also gives excellent tips on various ways to organize items. but again w/an emphasis on only using those techniques if they actually work for you. her time lines for how long it will take total to organize an area are realistic. however, her idea is to spend several hours all at one time to get a room organized. we have all done that before. it doesn't work. if it did we wouldn't be considering buying yet another organization book. she also almost encourages people to keep their clutter. there are good lists of what she calls "no brainer" things to toss out. but they are just that- "no brainers." a good accompanying book to get would be "sink reflections" by marla cilley. while morgenstern encourages us to waste an entire weekend and most of our free evenings just to get one room organized and she helps you save things you know you won't use but just can't get rid of. cilley encourages us to spend just 15 min to one hour and certainly not your valuable family time ... 5 stars (Inspiring and transforming book) - How to illustrate my experience about this book? I presume that I did not find the book. It was more like the book found me. As a business operation marketing VP, I tend to go on searching for books on advertising and marketing; Joe Vitale's book appeared on my search list. Looking back in retrospect it was like destiny. I read page after page of glowing reviews and decided that there must be a reason all these people are taking the time to say such great things about the book; it was either that or JoeV. sure had one too many friends. Just as it was mentioned by one reviewer, it is a very short read. It isn't the number of words that matters as how much impact those words can have on your life. To risk being redundant to previous reviews the results are profound. In our marketing business, one of the things we do is to provide business advice to our clients, and this book has become the inspiration to offer our clients for a better and a more holistic approach to the business arena. After reading the book, I told a CEO friend of mine about it and suggested he read it. At first he wasn't interested because it challenged a couple of strong beliefs that he had about himself and others. Maybe it was my "Emersonian enthusiasm" that caused him to agree to read the book. A few days later my phone rang. It was my hesitant friend who said, "hi there," then he paused before speaking in a slow, quiet voice, "I think that book got me a huge business contract." If you have read the book you will recognize the irony and if you have not read the book you should. If you want to know how to manifest what you most desire to be, do, and have in your lifetime, JoeV's "The Attractor Factor" has the step-by-step guidance you are looking for. This book is clear, concise, no nonsene, and deeply moving, JoeV shows you exactly how he creates the life of his dreams, and tells you exactly how we can do it, too. Starting right now - yes, tod... 2 stars (Nice history, boring read,) - As an auto industry follower, I can appreciate this book as a sort of historical reference for someone perhaps doing research. But as enjoyable reading, it falls far short. The book goes into a painfully detailed history of company events. In fact, I felt the title was a bit misleading, since it made me expect some interpretation as to why BMW is as admired as it is. Instead you basically get a chronology of events. 1 stars (Poor workmanship and limited insights) - Despite his years of experience as an auto journalist, Kiley is a sloppy writer, doesn't seem to have a clue about the mechanics and history of automobiles, and provides little in the way of new insights into what has made BMW successful. To give one example, he asserts that in the late 1960s BMW was unique in offering a wide range of engines in its cars and boosting the power of said engines almost yearly. In fact, both were standard Detroit practices at the time. This error is a byproduct of Kiley's urge to gush about everything BMW has ever done. Apparently the company's inarguable achievements are not enough--he must create additional "firsts" for it. To give another, I'll quote Kiley from page 12: "The higher the horsepower and the lighter the vehicle, the easier it is for engineers to achieve better low-end torque (power at low revolutions of the engine)." Sorry, but the weight of the vehicle has absolutely nothing to do with the torque curve of the engine. In addition, high horsepower usually comes at the expense of low-end torque because of inherent tradeoffs in engine intake system design. More troubling, all of the material is not Kiley's own. One poorly written section on Active Steering (a recent technical innovation that Kiley inaccurately credits entirely to BMW) left me wondering whether my own understanding of the system was incomplete (it was). So I Googled "steering transmission ratio" and found Kiley's words verbatim on a website that predates... 5 stars (What it's like to be Howard Lederer) - This book is a quick read and will do nothing to make you a better poker player. But it's a great story. If you want to know what it's like to play high stakes poker at the highest levels, this book is great. Gives you a much more accurate picture of folks like Lederer, Brunson, Ivey, Reese, etc than what you see on the World Poker Tour. Lots of great stories and anectdotes about the personalities and some really big games. 4 stars (Inside the Richest Poker Game of All Time) - In the days before the poker boom - today poker players are star personalities and hours and hours of games are televised on cable, a super rich amateur decided to take on the best money poker players in the world. Andy Beal played head-up matches with these pros and the results were surprising. With the pro's essentially being the "house" (the player with the greater advantage - like the dealer in Blackjack) - Andy worked and studied on how to lessen these advantages that the pros brought in to each and every game. Also some great insight into the lives away from the poker rooms of Vegas for the folks who make a living on the fall of the cards. If you are the sort of person who who pick this book up, then you will probably enjoy this brisk and entertaining read. 5 stars (Pure Enjoyment) - If you enjoy poker, and enjoy reading, this is an outstanding book. No strategy, just a great story about what many of us can only dream of, a person who is filthy rich, up against people who would gamble on anything they feel like they have an edge at. A lot of fun. ... 5 stars (Excellent Read, Great Information) - I love this book. It was the very first guide that I read. However, it has to be taken in perspective. This book is even better en tandem with The Unofficial Guide. Then you have all the information you could possibly need. The Unofficial Guide provides much needed balance, to the official line. This book will get you excited and high as a kite about your trip- which is great. It will tell you about all the wonderful things there are to do and great opportunities that are largely missed. The Unofficial will then proceed to give you a reality check about them and help you set realistic goals and have realistic expectations. This helps so that you're not disappointed. I used these two guides plus the Passporter (for organization) and we had the best trip in the world. We went in August, stayed on property, got around without having to rent a car or wait in long lines in the heat. We saw people looking like they were gonna pass out from heat exhaustion, but we sailed through our trip like a breeze and can't wait to go again. I read Fodor's, Frommer's (excluding the Irrevernt Guide), the Everything Guide, Rita Aero's,Eyewitness (waste of paper), Hassle Free Disney and tons more thru the years- NONE of the others are needed. The best plans are in the Unofficial guide, the best maps are in the official, the best planner is in the Passporter. The others were not used and not needed and a big waste of money. 5 stars (EXCELLENT INFORMATION) - Book is #1 to me. So informative, a must have for first timers or people who have been time and time again. 4 stars (Very good book, but wait for the 2006 edition.) - This book has lots of useful information. The book is somewhat dated already. I realize that Disney changes frequently. If you are planning a trip for the end of 2005 or 2006 I would wait for the 2006 book to be released. ... 1 stars (Misleading title) - If you are new to cycling then you will learn a few things in this book. But if you are already a cycling fan looking to learn more about Lance or US Postal, you won't find it here. This guy was so much an outsider that he doesn't have much insight. 3 stars (It's just okay) - Frankly, the book is just okay. The biggest problem I had was that Barry would touch on a subject, then dance around it. For example, during a chapter near the end of the book, he mentions that Hamilton tested positive, mentions that everybody around the breakfast table (most of the book seems to take place here) was talking about it, and then completely drops the subject. So, uh, geez, Michael, what were the guys saying about it? He also never really gave any insider's secrets to training, racing, nutrition, etc. I would recommend that anyone who is interested in reading a book about the 2004 season check out Coyle's Lance Armstrong's War, which I thought was a much better book. 3 stars (Great Introduction to Coffee & Cycling) - Michael Barry's view "Inside the Postal Bus" gives a great introduction to cycling, and includes some funny excerpts about the hotels, bus, and coffee machines that keep the team rolling. This is a quick read, and offers more perspectives on cycling than JUST "the" Tour, which is nice. The writing is not too sophisticated (most cyclists don't go on to college) but who cares?! He finally gives some of the riders OTHER than Lance and some OTHER races some coverage. If you are real Tour fan, this book covers some of the basics (meaning the jerseys, etc.) that we have heard over and over again but bear with it. ...
