Blink - The Power of Thinking Without Thinking

3 stars (Blinking) - Ok but not great...seem to wonder off in too many different directions at times. 5 stars (Really Interesting and an Easy Read) - Blink is a look at all the various things scientists have discovered about how we think without knowing we're thinking. It particularly takes a long, hard look at why it is that people's first impressions so often conflict with either what careful analysis says or what people think they believe. Gladwell looks at a broad range of applications of these ideas. He looks at why, even though Pepsi wins the blind "Pepsi Challenge," Coke continues to be the market leader. He investigates the psychology and split-second thinking that caused the death of an unarmed, fleeing immigrant from over 40 gunshots fired by NYPD officers. He looks at various factors that affect everything from standardized test scores to electing a President. Some have suggested that all Gladwell really tells us is that our first impressions are sometimes right and sometimes wrong. If after reading this book that's all you come away with, you have completely missed the point. The point is that whether those impressions are right or wrong is governed by a complex set of physiologic and experiential rules, and that we can do something about them. Cops can do things to make sure those first impressions don't result in an innocent death. And yes, you can learn to tell the difference between Coke and Pepsi when you drink a whole can, not just a sip. Gladwell is a writer for the New Yorker, and his writing style is very much like a bunch of magazine articles. But they are very GOOD magazine articles, and you want to read them all. 4 stars (Informative) - This book was very interesting to me, though I will admit it got boring at parts. Some sections were just very repetitive and seemed to be overkill, but the overall message the book sent was intriguing. It helped me understand the way the mind works and how people use this knowledge of their mind...

Algebra Structure and Method Book 1

4 stars (Math Blast) - I think overall, the book, Algebra Structure and method is wonderful. The book provides the odd answers to the problems, in the back, which is nice, because it gives me sense of if I'm getting the problems correct, without telling me all the answers. I also like how the difficulty of problems is catagorized, with "a" problems being the easiest, "b"problems, in the middle and "c" problems the hardest. Sometimes the explanations of how to do the problem are a little confusing,though. All in all, this book is a good teacher. 5 stars (8th grade view) - I found this book easy to use. The only time I had trouble in Algebra was when we were getting into factoring and our teacher decided to go outside the book >.< But other then that it is easy to understand and it explains very well. 5 stars (This book is still out there and still looks the same!) - I was searching for a good textbook to learn Latin and for some reason this book popped up since somebody had purchased it with the Latin text I was considering. I used Algebra Structure and Method Book 1 as a student in 1991 and 1992 in my high school Algebra 1 class. This was a very good textbook and I had previously hated mathematics. My school also used the second book in this series as well as the Geometry book that goes with it. I learned math and did well at it. I think this series would benefit any high school math student still today in spite of the fact that the cover has not changed in almost 14 years. ...

Great Product, great price, making my college books very reasonable. 5 stars (A great resource) - I ordered this book because it was on a list of required texts for a class I am currently enrolled in. I wish I had this book years ago; it would have helped a great deal in high school and in the time since then in college and even in helping my younger brother to write his reports. Not only does it give the basic mechanics of writing but it also completely explains the MLA, APA, and Chicago styles of documentation. Each section has a thumb tab and an index for ease in finding needed info. 5 stars (Misplaced Parts, Dangling Modifiers) - The LITTLE, BROWN COMPACT HANDBOOK is one of those essential resources that no writer, email user, student, or English speaker should be without. This current edition in particular is designed to be useful, both in its compact overall size as well as in its plastic comb binding which allows any page to be opened flat upon the desk alongside a keyboard while typing. In addition to its clearly-written and comprehensive treatment of grammar rules and punctuation, the LITTLE, BROWN COMPACT HANDBOOK contains highly useful sections on formatting and citation styles (MLA, APA, etc.), research methods, and methods for effective and persuasive argument formation. 5 stars (The Little Brown Book) - As a student and instructor, I never ever write a paper without using this book. I have used it since 2002 and each edition is better and better. My highlighter never stops when finding important ways to quote authors, annotate references, and where to use semi colons. 5 stars (Oldie but Goodie) - This was a required book for one of my college courses a hundred years ago. Out of all the college books I ended up keeping, this goes on the top of the list. This is a necessary book for anyone writing anything. As an advanced freelance writer, I still refer to it from time to time, and probably always will. 5 stars (Essential tool for all wordsmiths, not just students) - Although intended primarily for students, The Little Brown Handbook is an excellent reference for all nonfiction writers. While writing my own recent book on option pricing, I consulted it often regarding the use of colons, semicolons, dashes, and other fine points of punctuation. It even served as an arbiter of correct grammar and usage in the occasional dispute with my copy editor! Almost everything critical to good writing is covered--from organization, paragraph coherence, and sentence structure, to punctuation, word choice, and issues of style--and in sufficient detail to be useful to the working wordsmith. Guidelines for academic writers, a discussion of the American Psychological Association (APA) style employed in the social sciences, and suggestions for use of the internet in research, also appear in The Little Brown Handbook. All in all, this book should be found near the Strunk and White classic, The Elements of Style, on any writer's bookshelf. 5 stars (Good book!) - really useful if you are a backyard tinkerer and if not this is a cool little bedside book to browse through 5 stars (Perfect book for inventors and makers) - This is a dictionary for basic mechanical engineering. Schools have ruined physics and engineering by drowning the core material in math. This book is a simple "I need this motion to cause that motion handbook." If you are familiar with Arthur Ganson's sculpture, you will find many of the common joints he uses in this book. [...] I'm in electronics, and I needed a little bit of help with gears and adapting motion from motors, and this book is perfect. If you need to calculate torque or really get into the math of things get a textbook (or a real mechanical engineer). Where-s the Blanket- Charlie Brown-

2 stars (Maybe if you have hours to waste...) - This game takes around an hour and a half to complete. It is VERY slow, boring, and any child under 7 will be bored to pieces after the first scenario of trying to get out of Charlie Brown's house. The narration is too long, you can't speed it up, and once you think you've solved the game and it's over, it continues on and on again. The only way I can recommend this is for young kids 3-5, who just want to see the Peanuts characters interact on screen and the opportunity to click on things and see what they do. Once you have finished the game once, it remembers this and you can now play any one of the game/puzzle sections of it again, but if you take it out of your hard drive completely, you will be back to square one. Other than that, it is very frustrating to play the entire thing. 1 stars (Slow, Frustrating, and Negative for young kids) - I bought this game when my son was 4, because he had mastered most of the preschool games but wasn't ready for games that required reading, math, or quick fingers. I thought it would be a good problem-solving mystery game featuring some of his favorite Peanuts characters. After several attempts to help him get Charlie Brown out of the house, I finally got frustrated myself and put the game away so he wouldn't keep pestering me to figure it out (I was stumped, and didn't realize there was a "help" file). He finally dug it out months later and figured it out himself, but I forbid him from playing as Lucy because of the negative language she used towards the other characters. We finally pitched the game and moved on to Putt-Putt, Freddy Fish, and Pajama Sam. Much more positive role models, challenging but not frustrating problem solving games, fun music, and a more kid-friendly pace. Don't waste your money. I also recommend the Kilcommon book Good Owner, Great Dog which uses a similar approach with distinct verbal commands as opposed to the universal "No" that this book recommends. 5 stars (IT'S ONLY A BOOK!) - It's hard to explain why there's been such a fuss over this novel. Sure, it digs the Christian religion's grave just a bit more, but c'mon, it's only a novel. It's fiction. That MEEEEAANS....it's FALSE! It's not true, it's fake! If you buy a work of fiction looking for concrete facts, get a head check. Nobody's saying there's absolutely nothing true in this book, but it's not a history book, it's a suspense novel. However. I loved this book, because it makes history (false or not) very VERY interesting. I seriously couldn't put my iPod down, and that's what's so great about this novel (NOVEL!), it's about history and the church, but it's actually interesting. With the anti-book revolution today, people need to be praising Dan Brown for writing a thick book that everyone has read. Bravo. I'm done with my rant/ramble. I hope this helped. Praise da Vinci! 2 stars (Long on Entertainment, Short on Substance) - This mystery/thriller entertained me thoroughly but I must say not much of the story has stayed with me. I remember this work as a classic page turner so if you like that sort of reading experience, you should pick this up. Much has been written about the controversy surrounding the way Jesus Christ's adult life is portrayed. While this was somewhat bothersome, many media presentations have explained what aspects of this portrayal are reliable and which are not (which is most!). Neither the characters nor the writing is that memorable though. Many compare this book to the Chinese Food experience: it tastes great, really enjoyable, but not too much later, you're hungry again! 4 stars ( The Da Vinci Code ) - I thought this book was spectacular, Dan Brown really did it this time. Nothing more than an infantile cut and past that is at best incomplete ... I'm dead serious when I say my middle school daughter would have done a better job. If you read the table of contents of Execution, you will have more information than this leaflet provides. The leaflet asks such provocative questions as 'explain examples given in the book.' There is nothing new I can use here. I hate time wasters, and I hope that by adding my review I can save you some of your valuable time. 1 stars (Misleading waste) - The above item was ordered and upon review it is clearly worthless and without merit. I have read the book and expected more than a cut and past of content that in many cases does not reflect the authors' most salient's concepts. I recommend, based on other comments found on your website regarding other ebooks of this nature, that you seriously consider not offering material of this nature. It is only hurting your reputation. 5 stars (Time saved--much more than the cost of this e-doc) - I've suggested this article to a number of friends who needed to do something in a hurry on leadership. You can use it to personalize a discussion you have to conduct--and with it, do it in a very short time. An hour of my time saved is worth a lot more to me than the cost of this doc. It's what I love about e-docs, given how little time I have for anything. Digital Fortress

4 stars (memorable stinker) - There's something here for everyone. Short chapters and oversimplified technical explanations make the vapid reader feel smart. The more astute may savor the stinkiness of Dan Brown's early work. The research, the writing, the characters, the dialogue, the plot - it's all comically bad. Meet David, a language professor, and the heroine's boyfriend: "Over six feet tall, Becker moved across a squash court faster than any of his colleagues could comprehend. After soundly beating his opponent, he would cool off by dousing his head in a drinking fountain and soaking his tuft of thick, black hair. Then, still dripping, he'd treat his opponent to a fruit shake and a bagel." The whole book is like that. This isn't five star stinky, but it's close. 4 stars ( Digital Fortress ) - Outstanding Dan Brown thriller. More of a story than you might be used to but builds to a I cannot put this down type Dan Brown book. Computer buffs dare not miss this. 3 stars (Well...Everyone Has To Start Somewhere) - Working my way backward through Dan Brown's books, I have finally arrived at his first novel, " Digital Fortress ", and...well, this novel is obviously a first effort. Many reviewers have trounced this book thoroughly, but I won't be so harsh-every writer has to start somewhere, and " Digital Fortress " still makes a passable airplane/airport book. Readers will recognize the themes that Brown has used in every one of his books: boy/girl protagonists aroused from their routines at the last minute to be sent on a quest, the significance of which isn't realized until the evil bad guy-assassin shows himself; a conspiracy from the highest levels, and conspirators whose nefarious plans begin to cascade out of control as the unwitting protagonists expose the deception. This is formulaic niche stuff-nothing wrong with that as long as the reader sticks to the paperback editions and avoids investing in the hardcover editions. Where Brown struggles is in writi...
