Call of Duty Mac DVD Rom

5 stars (CALL OF DUTY) - All out action holding one's attention and taxing one's skills for hours on end. A powerful adrenaline booster. All out fun and excitement. 5 stars (5 Stars Because I Can't Give It 6!) - Everyone is right--this is MOHAA the correct way. I'm still a big fan of MOH, but this is extremely fun. (Especially the zooming through the french countryside in a "tin can" car. What a hoot!) In defense of MOH--and although I don't know this to be the case--I would guess that MOH is easier on your system than COD. COD's graphics and sounds are UNEQUALED, so you need a beefy system to get the most out of it. (I'm running a G5 with a hefty video card.) So, in a nutshell, this game rocks. I was skeptical of the 50 buck pricetag, but as soon as I post this review, I'm headed over to buy the expansion pack. It's that good. Trust me. 5 stars (Awesome Mac Game) - This is a superb game. It runs smoothly on my mac (Powerbook G4 867, 640 RAM) most of the time, but I wouldn't recommend it if you have much below that. There's a wide variety of weapons and battle scenarios, and you fight as American and British paratroopers, and as a Russian sniper. They have obviously taken a lot of the battle scenes, landscapes, and plot ideas from Band of Brothers and Enemy at the Gates, which is neat if you've seen those. Unlike a lot of shooters you don't just run around and shoot everything in sight, in fact playing cowboy will just get you killed most of the time. You have to work with your squad to accomplish your objectives, and when someone tells you to cover them you damn well better, otherwise you're going to find yourself exposed and without backup later in the mission. My only complaint is that it is too short, I beat the game within 2 or 3 days. But, it's fun to go back and replay missions, and after you've finished with the original there's still an expansion pack and multi-player mode. If you're looking for a solid, fun, and realistic looking war game this is...

Lego Star Wars DVD Mac

1 stars (returning it) - This game is very machine specific..I ordered it for my grandson's birthday and have to return it because the Mac at his house is not the right one for this game. A great disappointment. The technology exists to make things more diverse & be compatible with many computers...this game isn't. 1 stars (Lego Star Wars for Mac by aspry) - Does not work on a normal G4 iMac. Must have a G4 PowerMac or better. Recommended is a G5!!! 4 stars (A good distraction) - Okay, so I would've given this game three and a half stars, but I had to bump it up to four... oh well ;-) Anywho, I would say most of all that this game is a good distraction. Huge Star Wars fans (of which I am a party to) will really enjoy the details and references and the unlockables in this game - which will allow you to finally get to a point where you can kill Jar Jar Binks in the fighting mode (snicker, snicker...). The game play is simple and easy, yet there are definite problems with some of the controls and camera angles, which are OFTEN jerky and awkward, causing repeated falls down cliffs and blaster shots to the plastic behind, dropping down your cutesy little life hearts to zero before you can even turn to face your stubby attacker. Altogether, the cute little figures and neat-o weapons and unlockables (including droids! oh, dozens and dozens of useless droids...) fail to really make up for the crappy gameplay. I would say, if you're a Star Wars fan, shell out the forty and pick it up for a nice 3-5 hour distraction. If not - well, then, don't. ...

Tiger Woods 2005 Mac

2 stars (Not Happy With Tiger Woods 2005) - I don't understand why they felt a need to customize the golfer, right down to the size of the golfer's nostrils! It seems like an awful waste of programming and unnecessary use of the computer's resources. Why not improve the graphics which were better in TW 2003? Tiger Woods 2003 is a much better game and more realistic. TW 2003 application was 4.1 MB's and 2005 is 7.8 MB's. Who cares about the size of a golfer's head, ears, eyes, nose, mouth, etc.? The graphics in TW 2003 were much better than TW 2005! ...

Candy Bar Plus Mac

5 stars (Every Mac is an Island) - My gal Sara bought this because she's been a Mac person forever (I'm a former Window's person, who's made the switch) and has been used to using ResEdit to design her own icons under System 7 through 9. So now she's at it again, changing, rearranging and creating icons and I have to say, it's infectious. Who says the boys in Cupertino have to have the last say on what your desktop is going to look like. Want Microsoft Word to appear as a devil on the screen. You got it. You also get a thousand free icons with the program to start. Good ones. Macs have always been unique, now they are more so. Thumbs up from me for CandyBar Plus. C - C Generals Zero Hour Mac

5 stars (Unbelievable Expansion Pack) - The game was great without it but the game has a whole new gaming experience with it. With fifteen levels of non-stop action as either of the three main groups, and the generals challenges the game never seems to end. This is an excellent buy. 4 stars (A leap forward) - For those who love the Command and Conquer games, this is a must. I used to play the older games on my PC years ago, so i leapt at the chance to buy the Command and Conquer for mac when it came out last year. I think this expansion pack is even better than the actual original game, although you only get 5 missions per side (USA, China and GLA) as well as the skirmish setting you get another feature called Generals Challenge. This effectively gives you another 49 missions as you pit your wits against 7 other generals and their specialised weaponry. The weapons within these missions are pretty hi-tech. Overall this game is excellent, i only gave it 4 stars though as it requires a 1GHZ chip speed to play it, this slows down play on my 867 powerbook, and i'm sure a lot of people who want to play this will have the same problem. If i could have given it 4 1/2 stars i would have. ...

Homeworld 2 Mac

4 stars (A beautiful game, but not a $50 game) - HW2 is all of the things everyone else says: It's visually stunning, without crushing your processor, the music and sound effects in general are amazing, and the actual gameplay is quite enjoyable. The pace is generally slow and stately, with bursts of frenetic combat. You definitely feel the hugeness and majesty of space while you're playing it, and that, combined with the fact that you never see a human face or figure, create a strange sort of detached, lonely intensity to the game. The controls are demanding, no matter what anybody says. Maneuvering your fleet from one point to another in the 3D space is a real hair-puller-outer, never mind trying to use the waypoint systems, and the fact that you have to micromanage I find more frustrating than challenging. Things like having your workers automatically repair damaged units nearby and the like, which games like WC3 have managed to make a matter of course, don't seem possible with this game. The fighting units are not particularly diverse...they seem to go big, bigger, biggest, with the minelayer and the capture vessels being the only ships with unusual functions (and the minelayer seems to be a favorite target of the enemy AI, so you never really get to see it do its thing). The missions in the Single Player mode are really compelling, but don't cry out for a replay once you're done, and the Mel?#e mode doesn't stray much from the typical RTS formula of build up your forces and technology and then go fight. I don't play online so I can't testify as to the value of the game in that area. And I have yet to find the community of modmakers and custom-map makers that other RTS games like Warcraft, Total Annihilation and so on have inspired, which would definitely give some legs to this game. In summary, the imagery and sound are superb. If the developers of this game had been a little more engaged in the gameplay dynamics and the replayability of the game it would b...

The Sims 2 Mac

5 stars (joy of joys) - I've played The Sims 2 on the PC and, as a fan of The Sims and a Mac user, I must say that The Sims 2 for MacOS has certainly met if not exceeded my expectations. I was a bit concerned about whether or not my iBook G4 would be able to handle the game (especially after reading about the problems other Mac, but even with 8 sims on a lot at once (using fairly moderate settings -- medium quality for all but the actual sims and objects), the game has yet to crash. My only complaint is that the custom content I import to Body Shop never seems to show up correctly... 5 stars (Beats Barbie) - My 13 year old plays this game and has now taken an interest in learning photoshop and illustrator so she can design the clothes. This is much cheaper than shopping and provides the same fix. Our favorite part is the Martha Stewart TV show where Martha burns down the house. This game is a perfect fit for the GW Bush era. All the Sims are blathering idiots. I would like to know what cultural critics around the world think of this game. 4 stars (is this the best game?) - i think this is the best game not only because you control the sims life but you get to chose what they look like what they wear and what they like. the building tools enable you to build elaberate houses. This game in some ways lets you express your imagition on how you like things to be done. i think this is great game! ...

equinux iSale Mac

2 stars (Oh sigh. We want to like it, we really did.) - You'd think there'd be a wonderful program that did it all for the Mac ebay seller. One that helped you list auctions, deal with customers, manage feedback and fees and backend accounting. Oh wait. there was one. It was called A.I.D. and it was lovely. And ebay gave all the companies that were trying to develop such applications such a hardtime they couldn't keep up. And they stopped making it. Hence, very few programs attempt to become Mac programs for sellers, the total package that mac sellers need. The two big contenders are Isale and Garagesale. Both have the looks allowing you to customise templates and offer rich text format. Both offer their own perks, including integration with iphoto, dashboard widgets and the like. But Both stop short of getting your auction on Ebay. Sure Isale says you can track feedback and the like, what they mean is clicking a radiobox to say you've left feedback (GarageSale does the same). Both Isale and Garage Sale offer trial versions of their products. I used both for the allowed - three auctions (each). And on the last auction , i had a problem. I e-mailed Isale, twice. NO RESPONSE. So i tried GarageSale. Not only did they respond the next day, GarageSale has a yahoo group where software users can discuss their issues, the group is moderated by the lead programmer. When it came down to it, GarageSale Vs. Isale, GarageSale won out. Sure, it's a little less "pretty" than Isale. But for $15 less and a running support group (still waiting for that Isale to return my e-mail from last month). I knew which company i wanted to have my money. Hopefully GarageSale or another clever company will find a way to integrate all that post-auction/backend stuff that neither company seems to address... Until then its GarageSale, an Excel spreadsheet and a good e-mail program. 4 stars (Wonderful program - but very restrictive activated license!) - iSale is a wonderful, must have application...

Doom 3 DVD Mac

4 stars (woot) - I don't actually own the mac version of this game but i do own and have beaten the PC version almost 3 times. I have, however, downloaded the new mac demo which runs pretty well on all low at my base line ibook G4 1.25 GHz with 256 mb of ram ati radeon mobility 9200 32 mb Vram. For the majority of the time, i get around 10 fps for the first 5 minutes or so and then it just seems to speed up. Some areas, I actually get about 45 fps which is pretty amazing. So anyways, i bought a 1 gb ram upgrade which, i hope, will allow me to play the game on low at 1024x768 with like 40 fps or so. What might have helped the most is that i downloaded the ATI radeon drivers for the mac version of my 9200 from the ati website. If you want to play this game on high or something, don't even try it becasue not only will you get bad performance, but the program automatically turns on like an ultimate pixel shader needing thing that will make the game look like crap on a 9200. I remember the pistol was all chromed almost like pure silver and the faces were two toned: they were half the light tone and half the dark tone. in terms of gameplay overall from playing the PC version, the game scares you quite a bit if you play it for the first time for the first couple hours of gameplay and then here and there later on. When i played the mac version, i tried to remember everything but of course i failed and i was still scared a few times. Not the most insane fps but a pretty good game in terms of horror 4 stars (Spooky, scary, and fun FPS that fans of the series will love.) - Despite the suggestion by another reviewer (whose "review" seems more like an ad for how great his computer is as he doesn't reveal his opinion of the game) that I shouldn't bother wasting anybody's time by reviewing the game because I'm running it on an older system, here goes: I played the game on a dual 1.25 GHz G4 Power Mac with 1.25 GB of RAM and the new Radeon 9600 Pro with 256 MB VRAM. Star Wars Jedi Knight- Jedi Academy Mac

3 stars (Good/Bad, I can't classify it, it goes all over the board) - I'm going to warn everyone looking at buying this game to make sure that their computer's specs are much more than the requirements of this game. My Computer has twice the requirements and I get really choppy performance (twice the RAM, twice the processor speed, a better than recommended graphics card, et cetera). The reason anyone's going to be looking at this game is for the lightsaber combat, which is awesome!. The problem is that when you're fighting someone else with a lightsaber, there's so much that the computer has to do, that your framerate drops to unacceptable levels. One thing to look at is this game's predecessor, Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast. My computer runs that game flawlessly, even with multiple jedi duking it out with all their powers. So I don't get why my coputer can't run this as well. One area where this game is much better than it's predecessor is the maps. In Jedi Knight 2, I'm always looking at the maps and thinking about, "why is there this bottomless pit here?" Or, "How did all those guys up there shooting at me get there, there's no way up or down from there." At least in the two levels of this game that I've played (I have the demo, not the full game) everything seems to have a purpose where it is, even if it does seem a little odd (like a tomb in ruins, that's built straddling a bottomless rift) As for the story, I can't tell you whether or not it's compelling like the one in Jedi Knight 2 or not because I haven't played the full game, but from what I've read, it's a lot more contrived than it's predecessor. So beware of this game, don't play it unless your computer is at LEAST 1.25ghz and you have about 512mb RAM, otherwise you'll get stutters where you don't know what's happening. As for me, I'm not going to buy it solely because of the poor performance I've gotten on the demo, I might buy it for my xbox though, just so I can play it through. 2 stars (Could...

Star Wars- Knights of the Old Republic Mac

4 stars (A long LONG time ago?) - This is definitely a fun game, but don't play it unless you have a lot of time on your hands because you can easily get engrossed and play for a good 10 hours (I'm guilty of that). I do have a slight problem with the game though, (it come's from being a nerd who gets into the details of everything I watch/play) and that is how it ties into the Star Wars universe. I feel like this game isn't quite in the same universe, it kinda straddles Star Wars and some unnamed other universe. For instance, yes, it has Jedi, yes there are lightsabers, yes, there's a ship that's alot like the Millenium Falcon. But, lots of the technology seems like it has no place in Star Wars. The environments go from looking dead on (Taris) to looking like something out of Star Trek (Manaan), and that's not an insult because I love Star Trek too. The story is incredibly interesting and there are alot, verging on too many, options of customizing your character, though I suppose that's typical for this genre. The graphics are amazing and run very well, even on a system that just barely meets the requirements. But I don't like tweeking the graphics for each environment, and it seems like there are times when my computer just doesn't want to render quickly so it starts being jumpy, but that's rare. I think if I could buy this over again, I'd buy it on the Xbox, since that's what I did for it's sequel, and will continue to do for every game that I really want that's on both systems. 3 stars (10.4.2 warning!) - This game will not work with 10.4.2, unless you use the Aspyr-provided workaround. Here's what they had to say: There are currently some issues with the video card drivers in OS 10.4. A future operating system update should correct this, but there is a workaround that you can use in the meantime. In the Finder, go to your home folder, open the Library/Preferences/Knights of the Old Republic folder.? ?  Double click the 'swkotor.ini' file to edi...

Command and Conquer Generals Mac

5 stars (Command & Conquer Generals Zero Hour) - Very Well done Much better then the first installment. 4 stars (Not your daddy's Red Alert) - Pretty much an entirely new story line and a different universe in this one, so if you're looking for GDI vs NOD action it isn't here. That being said, this is the best looking RTS I've seen, and the gameplay is good and the resource gathering mechanisms are rather simple (i.e. you don't need 9 different elements to build a tank). One thing to note is that if you're like me and want to beat up on the computer in skirmish mode (custom game configuration where you can take on between 1 and 7 computer controlled opponents) it will slow down if you crank up the number of opponents and the skill level at which they play (I'm on 2x2.3Ghz G5, Radeon X800, 2.5G RAM). The one good thing that can be said about this is that while it does slow down in the heat of battle things keep moving fairly smoothly whereas with my PC version the game begins to stutter and get very frustrating. 4 stars (C&C lives on!) - Command and Conquer: Generals is a great game and I'm glad to say the game lives up to the C&C name. Fans of the series will enjoy the simular gameplay but you don't have to be a fan to enjoy Generals. For those of you who are worried it might not be the same since Westwoods name isn't on the box (developer of past C&C games) worry not since Westwood is a part of Electronic Arts. The interface is slightly different but works out nicely. Instead of having every building option available to you at once, the options for each building become available when you click on them. Another nice change to Generals is the 3D environment. Being able to rotate the camera and zoom in and out is a nice feature to have, especially if your units go behind buildings and you hate the colored shadows that show up to let you know where they are. There are a few things that I miss from the previous C&C games. There arn't any naval units so if yo...

Call of Duty- United Offensive Expansion Pack Mac

3 stars (war games) - Good action most of the time but could get monotonous some of the time. Would have been more fun if the ability to choose another weapon was there like for example a sniper rifle would have been better for a lot of the action. 5 stars (It Doesn't Get Any Better Than This!) - I thought the original COD was excellent, but this expansion raises the bar. The graphics are excellent. The missions are wonderful, but, in my opinion, the best, by far, is the all-too-short stint you do in a RAF B-17. Running back and forth between top guns, waist guns and tail guns is very exciting. The US missions are excellent, too, as are the Russian missions. As for resources, this game requires them. I have a middle of the road G5 and it runs fine. The only time it bogged down a tiny bit is during the final Russian battle in the rail yard. I have everything maxed out, though, so I could lower the settings and have no problems. So, if you have a newer machine, or you are ok with lowering the settings, you'll be ok. I'm anxiously awaiting more expansion packs for the Mac. In the mean time, I'll up the difficulty one notch and replay both games again. It's THAT good. Trust me. 3 stars (Requires too many resources) - I have an iBook G4 1.2GHz with 768MB RAM. The original Call of Duty ran fine. The expansion set, even with the lolwest graphics settings, does not run well. Picture jumps too much making it impossible to play, especially during big battle scenes. ...

Sim City 4 Deluxe Mac

3 stars (decent) - I started playing this game in February and played for about 2 weeks when I no longer could keep my patience with the atrocious lack of performance. This game should not have been released or the requirements for your system should have been higher. The recommended 256 mb RAM and 32 mb on the graphics card are not sufficient to build a region of interconnected cities, which is the major new feature of this game compared to previous versions. Yes, the graphics are better, the interface is somewhat improved, but the poor performance and some tragic changes for the worse makes this game a big disappointment. ...

Battlefield 1942- Deluxe Edition DVD-ROM Mac

2 stars (Not What I Thought I Was Getting. . . .) - I ordered this after playing, and beating, all of the difficulty levels of Medal of Honor and Call of Duty. From what I've read, this was supposed to be the motherload of WWII simulations. I installed it and played it today. It wasn't what I was expecting. I like the first person shooters, like COD. This was more of a, well, battlefield. (I know. Duh.) Anyway, if you are into playing online with a whole bunch of people and not really having story lines, per se, to follow, this may be for you. If you like shooters like COD and MOH--with a definite "path" to follow, you might want to rethink this. The game's effects are spectacular, but I just don't have the grey matter to figure it all out. I'm unistalling and going back to MOH. Battlefield does a whole bunch of things, including overwhelming me. 4 stars (Great Multiplayer Action) - Even though it's showing its age, Battlefield 1942 is still a great multiplayer experience. I hust bought a new iMac G5 and my PC friends still wanted to game with me. After I installed the Desert Combat 0.7 modification we were off and playing online again. The only real issue is that even with a 2.0 Ghz G5 and 1.5 GB of RAM, it struggles against 49 bots on an enemy team. Just play online against humans or keep the bot count a bit lower. I like the ability to play with my Windows using friends. 5 stars (BF1942 is amazing) - wowwww!!! i love playin this game even without the expansion pack its amazing. In BF1942 the war doesnt come to you, you have to find enemys using tanks, jeeps, humvees, planes,(which are so much fun to fly and parachute out of.) And its actualy realistic war. You dont die every three seconds and you can call out commands using the f butons. Itts a really awesome gamefor those of you who are seeking reallistic battle.
