5 stars (Much better than expected) - Ok, I bought about 4 CDS for polish an dthis was the best o all.....this CD was great because unlike "teach yourself Polish"...ALL the talk was in Polish with pictures and English written translation...so you could play it 500 times with NO WASTE at all since you'll keep hearing POlish so much much better than ';teach yourself polish " cd. it was also much better than polish immersion which was an insult. I highly reccomend this CD 5 stars (Fun way to learn some basic Polish words) - This program will teach you to read, write, and correctly speak some very basic Polish words and sentences. It's a great way to get excited about learning Polish. It is however quite basic. You will only learn about 300 words. But you will learn them very, very well. And you will speak them very, very well. The program allows users to listen as two native polish speakers say the same words and phrases. You can repeat these as often as you like. And you can record your own speach and replay it until your pronounciation is correct. You will learn basic words, colors, food items, phrases, numbers, how to tell time, names of body parts, names of things you may shop for, and polish names of various countries. As a bonus you can print out a very nice polish picture dictionary. To help reinforce your learning, there are many games that give you the opportunity to be challenged. These too are rather simple...but they are indeed fun. And finally...you do not need to understand english to use this program as a polish instructional tool, you can choose from 72 different host languages. In my opinion, Talk Now will teach you quicker and better than Pimsluer. When you are ready get the intermediate version of Euro Talk Polish called World Talk Polish. And forget Pimsluer, which is overpriced and over-rated. Same goes for Rosetta Stone and a few others. When you are ready for intermediate/advanced learning, then consider courses such as Colloquial Polish..etc. ...

3 stars (Instructional CD - Talk Now! Learn Tagalog ) - Teaches a working vocabulary. Games provided are based on repeating the words so it does imprint the words. However, they do not provide any basics as to how to put words together to create sentences. It's still OK though as it does claim to be appropriate for "absolute beginners". 1 stars (You won't be able to talk back and forth with this.) - If you are looking to buy this software in order to speak to someone back and forth, this is not the product for you. It will teach you phrases and questions, but you won't be able to understand any answers that a native speaker might give you because it doesn't teach you that. You will be able to identify objects in a house or building, but you won't know how to use them in a sentence or even in a fragmented sentence. This is also true for colors. If this is what you rely on to travel somewhere you might find yourself in the middle of a croud just saying azul(blue)......pula(red).... malalim na azul(dark blue)....Nasaan ang maipaparada ng kotse(where can I park the car?) and then even when you ask where can I park the car you won't know where to park it because you won't understand anything that people will tell you because it doesn't teach you that(people might think you're retarded haha). It only teaches you numbers up to 20, so you're out of luck if you ask magkano ito? (how much is this?) and the answer is 150 pisos. You'll just have to hand a merchant a wad of cash and hope he is honest and gives you your change. However, with all the bad things out of the way, this might make a good start for you to learn how to say the words correctly, even though the guy that talk doesn't pronounce the words correctly on there, just click on the girl(she says the correct pronunciations). 3 stars (fun and easy to learn...) - However, quite basic, so once you've finished the first CD, you'll need something else to get to more advanced practice. Even so, this CD worked perfectly for me and did not require me to download any additional software in order to get it to run. I'm using Mac OS X, 10.3.4-Panther on a G4 iBook. The fact that I'm running a Mac version may explain the differences in my review from the other reviewers the same software, who are likely windows based users. The games are quite fun and the graphics are crisp. We've not yet utilized the voice comparisson option, but look forward to doing so as soon as my microphone arrives--the program allows you to have your pronounciation/voicing compared to the native speaker's voices on the CD. For the price (I purchased on sale for under 15$), it's darned good. Not sure what the other reviewers paid, but considering most shareware costs about that much, this is a solid performer. We supplemented this starter program with Pimleseur Croatian. Imati velik dan! (have a great day!) Nina 1 stars (do not buy this item) - I have given this item 1 star because there is nothing lower. It might be a good product, I will never know. The first thing you will find is that in order to view the product you will need to download a software package costing an additional $15. The next thing you will find is that if you want a refund from Amazon, you will pay the shipping because this is not their fault (even though this is not mentioned in the description). 5 stars (I'm already speaking dutch!) - The format for this language-learning program is excellent. The biggest problem I found when i tried to teach myself Dutch, was that I had no clue how to pronounce what I was reading. With this program you have 2 native-speakers saying each word (a male and a female), which is enormously helpful in learning the pronunciation. Another great feature is the record button, which allows you to record your own voice, and then instantly compare it to the native speakers. I love this! In fact, my pronunciation was much closer than I imagined it to be. And my boyfriend, who is from the Netherlands, was very impressed with how quickly I was able to pick up so many words and phrases, and say them like a seasoned speaker, and not with a silly accent. There are also quizzes and games, which offer more ways to learn, touching on all aspects of comprehension. I highly recommend this software. Not only was it painless to learn, it was a total blast! Even my 5 year old son loves to use it. ...

1 stars (Far too basic...) - ....to be useful. Learn colors, time, food, and numbers, but you won't learn how to pronounce anything on your own or put a sentence together, let alone learn any meaning of the words in the few sentences they offer to teach. If memory serves you well, you can parrot the few sentences, but overall you'd be better off taking a bunch of pictures of the same items and pointing and grunting when it comes time to communicate. Also, quite a few of the words they want to teach you are english derivatives, like auto, bus, telephone, cola, etc. Save your money, find another resource. This is more game software than educational. 4 stars (Not Bad for an Introduction to Hungarian) - I wanted to refresh my Hungarian after being away from the country for a while. This is a good course for building a beginner's vocabulary. The interaction and the games are engaging and interesting, but the skill level was too remedial for me. I finished nearly all the lessons within 24 hours. I wish the lessons were more advanced like what the German and Spanish versions offer. My only real complaint is that the software introduces no grammar or conjugation, just word recognition and pronunciation. 5 stars (awesome language software) - This is a very helpful tool. 2 stars (A worthwhile supplement to Hindi study, but seriously flawed) - Talk Now Hindi suffers from the flaw which affects most language software. The manufacturer uses an identical engine for all of their languages, so there is nothing in the program which would be unique to the Hindi language, and nothing culturally Indian. This also creates the amusing situation of having animated Europeans testing your Hindi (the blonde woman may be cute, but not the type of person you are likely to meet in an Indian bazaar!) There are several good features of the program: -Words and phrases are spoken by a male and a femal voice. -You can choose from dozens of languages for the help language. -Some of the games are actually quite fun (such as creating the Frankenstein monster while learning the parts of the body). But the problems with the program are many: -Sound is a bit muddy -You can complete everything in about three hours of work. -Symbols, pictures, hosts, etc. are all European. -Because the software engine is generic, you learn a lot of words you would never use in India, or words for which Hindi speakers use the English word. For example, you learn that the Hindi word for "tie" is "tie" and "jacket" is "jacket". Even worse, "Mug" is "mug" and "bread" is "bread" even though there are commonly used Hindi equivalents for these: "pyala" and "roti" respectively. -Some of the words are wrong or very rare usages. For example, the word given for grey is "bhura", which actually means brown. My guess is that whoever they got to give the Hindi words for things either speaks an odd dialect, or is not a native speaker at all. -Many words are spelled wrong in the Hindi script. For example, Israel is pronounced "Israel" by the speaker, but spelled "Istrael" for some reason. This program might be useful for you if you are a beginner at Hindi, and want something amusing to supplement your textbook study. 5 stars (Great, fun way to learn Danish) - As a beginning student in Danish, I enjoyed using this cute program. It uses colorful pictures and games to help you learn vocabulary words and basic phrases. The cute games keep you interested and are fun to do, even if they are a little childish. The methods seem to be really helpful, as my retention has been high. I also like that there is both a male and a female speaker. They both enunciate the words clearly, which I have found to be extremely helpful. I highly recommend this program for beginners! 4 stars (A great BEGINNER tool) - This program is a colorful and flashy way to learn some basic Danish vocabulary -- perfect for young learners, especially! I've had a bit of Danish previously, so this wasn't a great challenge. I breezed through it in under 2 days of casual play. (It's also pretty easy to "guess", so if you're naturally good at taking quizzes, you might not feel like you're really learning a lot.) I was hoping to pick up a little more Danish so that I could converse with my Danish in-laws. However, there isn't much here in terms of phrases, with the exception of a dozen or so "tourist" phrases. I do think it's a fun way for ~~absolute beginners~~ to take a first step into learning Danish. For more in-depth learning, Rosetta Stone is the way to go. This program does have a neat feature to go to online resources to learn more about Denmark and Danish, which I thought was quite enjoyable. I did encounter a program error which crashed the program on two separate operating systems (XP and 2K); the problem was easily remedied by switching from "American English" as the help language to "British English", however.
