5 stars (My new hero) - Melody Beattie is my new hero. She has walked through the trenches, fought the battle and lived not only to tell about it, but to offer hope for those of us who are still in the battlefield or still shell shocked from the trauma of it all. I recognized myself in her descriptions of a co-dependent, sometimes painfully so. I had to put the book down a time or two, because I felt she came right off the page to knock me into reality. I heard of the book from Dr. Irene's verbal abuse site [...] which stated this book is a must read for those of us with codependent behavior. I have to agree. I am looking forward to applying my newfound knowledge and the confidence acquired from it in oncoming life situations. I hope to become my own new hero. 4 stars (just what I needed) - I am currently reading this book and loving it. I am taking a long time to finish it because it is so deep. It is easy reading, but in order to get much out of it you really have to read it slowly and of course change your wrong behavior, one step at a time. I like the fact that the author tells you that change does take time. It seldom happens overnight. Very comforting for someone who wants to see huge changes overnight. I also like that she encourages you to have a relationship with God. He is the only one whom we are supposed to be codependent with. Eveyone else is imperfect, just like me. . 5 stars (Great Truth About the Causes of Relationship Pain) - In `Codependent No More', Melody Beattie sheds great awareness of the patterns that people are engaged in that lead to pain. Termed `Codependent' Beattie clearly and honestly outlines the behaviors, reactions, responses and patterns that are prevalent in codependent relationships. Control is a major factor, that is, that you are trying to control the other person to get what you want out of the relationship, which leaves you feeling drained and depleted. I Hate You- Don-t Leave Me - Understanding the Borderline Personality

4 stars (One of the best books out there on Borderline Personality Disorder) - I purchased this book for a friend. She wanted to give it to her Doctor. She was so impressed with this book she wanted everyone to read it. It is very well thought out and easy to understand for the lay person. A must read if have Borderline Personality Disorder or just know someone that does. 1 stars (please read this review) - If you are truelly a borderline personality who is seeking information before treatment or you are new to treatment do not read this book.It is a very outdated view which is insensitive to the needs of BPDers and their families at a time when hope and faith is needed.I read this post intensive treatment and as a now diagnosed BPD meaning treated and considered successfully treated this book negates it.One star for pointing out fellow famous BPDers.But read this when you can look back... Stick to Marsha Linehan and" Lost in the Mirror" 4 stars (Things Become Clearer) - This book defines a condition that has baffled us - BPD. Suspicions are confirmed, and perhaps courses of action are opened to us that we didn't have before. We recommend this book if someone close to you is frightening you with their behavior. Approval Addiction - Overcoming Your Need to Please Everyone

5 stars (How Practicing the Presence of God can Save You a lot of Grief) - An excellent - well organized and easily absorbed work about one of the most important subjects - which few of us think much about - the need for devotion in our lives. Most of us spend our thinking hours absorbed in worldly pursuits - fulfillment of immediate or, when it comes to loved ones, longer range concerns. Yet, few of us actually practice absorption in thinking about our relationship with God - actively feeling God's presence in our lives continually. Perhaps, many of us feel that we lack the courage of faith to believe that God is more than an idea, and act on that conviction. When we think of God - when we attend church - or generally when things fail to go as we wish - when we find ourselves in distress, trouble, or experiencing loss - we think in terms of salvation - our object is to get to 'dry ground' - to be delivered - to find Heaven - but we never really give complete preference to devotion - and when you think about it - as Joyce Meyer has - deeply - devotion really is the way to salvation. As Jesus has informed us - every hair on our head is numbered - and we ought to focus on that - how we present ourselves before the Lord - at every moment - giving deference to God - rather than people who happen to have something that we want. An observation of particular merit, I feel, is that most of our negative behaviors - dishonesty, violence and the like - arise from our obsession with gaining the approval and esteem of our fellow humans. Is this insight not true - and truth of the highest order? Meyer claims that God makes Himself absolutely accessible to us at every moment we chose to seek Him.
